Hi friends,
Welcome to April and to a new month together. As we’ve officially moved into spring, let the cleansing, clearing and traversing through stagnancy begin!
Last month, Jackie hosted a Winter Nervous System Reset at Good Space. The 90-minute class was designed to remove our energetic “gunk” after a long winter spent indoors; using breathwork, massage ball-rolling and Vinyasa yoga to leave us feeling lighter + brighter.
Katonah yoga uses the metaphor of opening the windows to air out the house; getting organized and cleaned up so we can operate feeling fluid and buoyant. A simple way this is done is through breathwork with the arms lifted, exposing the armpits.
The point is: we accumulate a lot of garbage—physically, mentally + emotionally—and the body and the breath are access points to clear it out. Meet: spring cleaning, the lens through which we’ll be working together this month.
ICYMI: Melanie Hill, clinical Western herbalist with a background in TCM, will be joining us on HOME WORK. We’ll be sitting down to chat next herbs week, but first, I’d love to get a pulse check on where you’re starting at with herbalism:
And if you’re a HOME WORK member, stay tuned for your opportunity to have your questions answered by Mel during our conversation next week.
An Inventory of the Present Tense
Coming off the tail end of a 17-day trip to Toronto, here’s what’s been grounding me the most these last few weeks:
Been working on the Scribble Top from ROWS nightly while I fight jet lag and pregnancy hormones. A new and adventurous stitch for this beginner knitter but I’m excited about the way it’s turning out, soon to be a birthday present for a pal.
I am now that person that travels with their matcha whisk and portable milk frother and I am OK with that. While my regular eating routines go out the door while away from home, it’s nice to start the morning with something familiar.
I am also now maybe someone that regularly travels with their facial steamer (still working on my acceptance of that one, mostly because it’s cumbersome to travel with) .. An easy way to wind out after a particularly stimulating day in the city, I prop my face in front of its steam and pretend I’m at a spa. A hard buy because I was looking for something that more so operated like a clothing steamer than something you sit your face in and the $214 Sephora option was not it. So I used Amazon but have been taking real good care of it, ever since. Also was lifesaver while I was sick last month.
These barrel pants from California-based, Micaela Greg, that I bought on a Boxing Day sale but have worn approximately every day since. Truly an investment that’s given back to me abundantly, the elastic waistband has made them the only “jeans” I can still wear in pregnancy and they perform well enough on the style-comfort axis for cruising around Toronto while edging my third trimester.
And with that, I bid you adieu! Delighted to be landing in your inbox in this way and I look forward to seeing you again through the the digital ethers, very soon.
